Maurizio Sarri discusses Gonzalo Higuain’s Chelsea future after Watford

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has this evening provided his latest update on Gonzalo Higuain’s future at the club, after the veteran found the net versus Watford.

Higuain arrives

31-year-old Argentinian hitman Higuain completed his move to Stamford Bridge on the 23rd of January, following a protracted saga which eventually saw the veteran cut his loan stint with AC Milan short to pen a new temporary agreement in London.

The Juventus-owned striker’s arrival came on the back of a disappointing opening-half to the campaign for Alvaro Morata, with Higuain having been brought in to add some much-needed firepower to Chelsea’s frontline.

Higuain’s struggles

However, to this point, the veteran’s stint in England has proven largely-underwhelming.

Though Higuain has showcased flashes of his superb movement and prowess in front of goal, his all-round play has generally left a lot to be desired, with the former Real Madrid man, all told, having notched 5 goals across 15 appearances in Chelsea’s colours.

Chelsea 3-0 Watford

Higuain did manage to find the net this afternoon, though, when the Blues welcomed Watford to Stamford Bridge.

After Ruben Loftus-Cheek and David Luiz notched a quickfire double shortly after the interval, the South American rounded out the matchup’s scoring 15 minutes from time with a gorgeous dinked finish.

‘We can do very well…’

As such, in the aftermath of his side’s latest win, which has since seen the club’s berth in next season’s Champions League confirmed, Maurizio Sarri has this evening discussed Higuain’s future in London.

And, after suggesting last weekend that the hitman would likely continue to lead the line for Chelsea into next season, Sarri once again hinted at his desire to hold onto Higuain beyond the summer:

‘If he’s staying then we can do very well in the next season.’
